Start time: 7:30pm
Dr. Tyler Johnson is an author, doctor, and professor at Stanford University, with a growing reputation for thoughtful analysis of current cultural trends, modern spirituality, and the place of religion in the 21st Century.
In his new book, When Church is Hard, Dr. Johnson first outlines just why organized religion in general (and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in particular) are deeply difficult for an increasing number of people, especially the young. Then, with these very real problems firmly acknowledged, Johnson asks some difficult questions: “Amidst all that, are there reasons why religion still matters? Are there things religion alone can still do? Do we really need 'church'?”
Dr. Rosalynde Frandsen Welch, Associate Director and a Research Fellow at the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship at Brigham Young University, will lead a discussion with Dr. Johnson and facilitate a Q&A session.
(There is no cost to attend author or civic events at the A-Frame, but please reserve a seat by purchasing a free ticket.)
