COMMISSIONS
I frequently work on commission, often with collaborators, usually with 6-24 months of runway before a deadline. My rate varies depending on the size of the ensemble as well as the duration of the piece. If possible, I love to attend the premiere(s), do pre/post concert talks, engage with the audience and donors, etc. I'm also usually able to arrange a video chat with ensembles that are performing my works. I care about the art form and the people who make the magic, and I try to be a cheerful contributor to this beloved ecosystem. I'm happy to chat about your vision.
GUEST TEACHING, LECTURES, PRESENTATIONS
I've been a keynote speaker, presenter, moderator, and emcee at conferences and galas, and have frequently given guest lectures at the university/conservatory level. Let me know what you have in mind.
PRIVATE TEACHING
I typically do not take private students, though I will sometimes do a 1:1 counterpoint workshop or similar. If you have a burning question, go ahead and ask.
FEEDBACK ON COMPOSITIONS
I cannot provide feedback on your compositions, though I encourage you to compose. Instead, what I recommend is that you 1) write the piece you're thinking of, using whatever skills and resources you have today; 2) arrange a performance of your piece for an audience, even if it's just at a party with friends; 3) listen to your voice memo recording of the performance and ask "what worked and what didn't?"; 4) edit your piece to reflect what you noticed and learned; 5) put that piece away (maybe forever), write another piece, and return to step 1. Combined with careful study of counterpoint and repertoire, you've just found the 'ole gradus ad parnassum. The goal is to allow quantity to quality over time. I'm following those same steps also, and I too am lightyears behind Bach—so I guess we'll all just keep trying, yes?
