This poem wasn't the first of Berry's that I read, but it was the first, for whatever reason, that compelled me to write choral settings, and which sparked my other settings. This is Berry at his finest, and he invites us to "Love where we cannot trust / Trust where we cannot know" as we await the "wayward-coming grace" that we need so badly. The piece was composed initially for unaccompanied SATB (with divisi) and I composed an optional string quartet accompaniment several years later.
